So....
This evening has been interesting. I picked Oscar up at 3:45 and was optimistic as she seemed to be acting like herself. My optimism was quickly shattered, however, by her incessant licking as soon as we got home. She would not stop licking and chewing her incision despite my best attempts at distraction. A little licking isn't a problem, but she wouldn't stop and this can cause infection or worse. I put her back in her carrier as I was afraid to leave her to her own devices at home and drove to PetSmart (fortunately only a few minutes away). We went in and I bought one of these:

We came back home and I put the cone on after a brief struggle. Oscar could hardly walk, and when she did she ran into walls and furniture. She was totally off-balance but refused to just lay down and rest. She was rolling around and kicking trying to get the plastic cone off. I couldn't stand to watch anymore and gave in, hoping she would stop licking. Literally the moment I took it off she went write back to licking the incision! I cut up a t-shirt and tried to wrap it around her abdomen with medical tape, but it wouldn't stay. We were both aggrivated and frustrated, so I sat down to get on the computer to look for what other options I had to keep her from hurting herself. For the first time since we had gotten home she laid down and curled up next to me on the couch.
I made a couple of calls and found a vet in the area that carries these (they didn't have them at PetSmart):

It's soft and flexible and will allow her to move much more normally. Oscar had fallen asleep so I decided to take the chance that she would stay asleep rather than put her through all of the stress of leaving again. 30 minutes later I was back home with the collar and she was still asleep in the same exact spot. She's still asleep so I haven't put the new collar on her, but I have a feeling I will have to when she wakes back up. Other than all of that she is doing well and I will keep everyone posted.
